Service Learning and 外展 Opportunities
The Landscape Architecture Program has a strong history of community engagement. Since 2018 our landscape architecture design studios have worked on 14 service-learning projects with regional communities, providing outreach to Idaho’s rural communities and urban centers. As students learn to collaborate in real-world situations, they have high-quality learning experiences and make meaningful contributions to the larger community.
Healing Garden and Memorial
在2023年秋天, landscape architecture and architecture students organized and led several participatory events, including a university-wide charette where they explored with the community members design ideas for a place of remembrance representing the Vandal strong resilience in the university campus for all U of I students who have passed away while enrolled at the university.

Collaboration with the 行 Tribes
2021年春季, students worked with the 行 Tribes to envision a landscape design for the Shoshone Bannock Tribal Museum in Pocatello, ID that would reflect the symbols and native landscapes of the tribes.

Annual “PARK(ing) Day” workshop: converting parking spaces into ‘parklets’
Students practice community engagement through the venue of temporary gardens and parklets that promote an interaction with residents, and test their design skills in a reality charged environment.

Brown Park Restoration and Riverfront Park proposal for the City of McCall in Idaho
In 2019, the design studio was involved in a collaboration with the City of McCall, ID for the town’s Brown Park Restoration and Riverfront Park proposal.

“InterARTing. Temporary Site-Specific Art Installations to Connect People and Land”
Spring LARC 363-365 + LARC 554 In the Spring 2021, students designed and built site-specific landscape installations at the PCEI Nature Center in 莫斯科, Idaho (Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute), supported by University of Idaho Student 艺术-Fee Grant.

莫斯科 High School Designed Courtyard
自2017年以来, students have been collaborating with the “Soil Club” of the local 莫斯科 High School to formulate conceptual landscape designs and detailed designs of the school’s courtyard.
